The village of Comberbach in the heart of Cheshire

Comberbach Parish Council works for the interests of the local village community to maintain and improve the quality of life and local environment for residents and visitors.

The Parish Council comprises 8 Councillors elected for a 4-year term who are supported in their role by 2 part time staff – a Parish Clerk and a Responsible Financial Officer (RFO). **(link)**

The Council is mainly funded through the precept which is an amount approved at a Council meeting in January each year.  The Council gives detailed consideration to current and future commitments and projects before agreeing the budget for the year ahead and the level of precept required.  The Council can also supplement its budget through grant funding.

The Council meets 7 times a year to make decisions on all matters.   The Council also has a Finance Committee whose role is to monitor the financial position against the approved budget and give detailed consideration to any spending proposals; any recommendations are then put forward to the next Council meeting.    The Council has a Planning Working Group which considers any planning applications in the village and makes comments to Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The Council has a number of assets which are maintained and enhanced, including:

  • The Recreation Area is a well-loved community facility enjoyed by residents and visitors. Recent improvements have included new activity tables and 4 picnic tables, which include accessible spaces.
  • The Council bought the phone box from BT in 2017 and turned it into a Heritage Phone Box. As well as providing information on local heritage, the Box’s appearance is enhanced by the logos of village organisations on the glass panes.  The Council was delighted that our Heritage Phone Box was awarded a ‘Little Gem’ Award in the Cheshire Best Kept Village competition in 2019.
  • The most recent assets funded by the Parish Council include our new village gateway signs, installed in August 2020, the Pump Track at the Recreation Area, and replacement swings also in the Recreation Area.
